From My Kitchen to Yours: The Perfect Hand Pie Recipe
There's something magical about the smell of buttery pastry baking in the oven, especially when it's filled with sweet, seasonal fruit. At Kelley's Bloom and Barn, we believe in savoring life's simple pleasures, whether it's the first bloom of spring or a warm hand pie shared with loved ones.
My boys absolutely love these hand pies. They're flaky, buttery, and can be filled with all their favorite flavors, from classic cherry and peach to fresh strawberries from our garden. After years of perfecting this recipe, I'm excited to share our family's go-to hand pie dough with you.
Why Hand Pies Are Perfect for Farm Life
Living on a farm means our days are often unpredictable. Hand pies are the perfect solution for busy mornings, afternoon snacks, or when unexpected guests drop by. They're portable, customizable, and always a crowd-pleaser. Plus, there's something so satisfying about making them from scratch—much like tending to our blooms, it's about creating something beautiful with your own hands.
The Secret to Perfect Hand Pie Dough
The key to our family's hand pie success lies in the dough. This recipe has been tested countless times in my kitchen, and I promise—it's worth every step. The result is a pastry that's tender, flaky, and holds up beautifully whether you're filling it with fruit, savory ingredients, or even leftover dinner.
Seasonal Inspiration from the Garden
One of the joys of farm life is enjoying seasonal foods. Our hand pies change with the seasons:
- Spring: Fresh strawberries and rhubarb
- Summer: Peaches, berries, and stone fruits
- Fall: Apples, pears, and warming spices
- Winter: Dried fruits and comfort flavors
A Note from My Heart
Food has always been a way to show love in our family. These hand pies represent so much more than just a recipe; they're about slowing down, creating together, and sharing something made with care. Whether you're making them for your own family or sharing them with friends, I hope they bring as much joy to your kitchen as they do to ours.
From my kitchen to yours, with love (and lots of butter),
